Kick-off meeting of the ERASMUS+ project "eLILY2 – Ehealth Literacy Learning skills among Nurses working with older people"

The two-days Kick-off meeting of the ERASMUS+ project "eLILY2 – Ehealth Literacy Learning skills among Nurses working with older people" (2020-1-CY01-KA202-065962) was organized by the Cyprus University of Technology, coordinator of the project on 18-19 November 2020. The meeting was held online with the participation of all participating project partners – Klaipėda State University of Applied Sciences (Lithuania), National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece), University of Humanities and Economics in Lodz (Poland) and Ostrava University (Czech Republic).

The specific project aims to develop a blended training programme (class sessions and elearning course) for nurses and nursing students by expanding the existing knowledge developed as part of the eLILY project "ehealth LIteracy Learning skills among informal carers of older people and people with Dementia". With eLILY2, a course for Nurses will be developed focusing on enhancing the skills to:

  1. Identifying and understanding the health care service users with low Health Literacy;
  2. Educating health service users to increase their empowerment and self-efficacy in dealing with health problems;
  3. Enhancing eHealth literacy skills among nurses and other health care professionals.

On the first day of the meeting, there was a joint welcome and introduction of individual partners: their background, focus on science, research and the common theme of the project. Furthermore, the previous experiences of individual partners in working on European projects were presented. The main presentation of this day was then given by representatives of the Cyprus University of Technology, which presented the objectives and expected benefits of the project, financial management and its monitoring.

The second day of the meeting was focused on specific steps in the implementation of the project – training methodology, e-learning course, implementation and evaluation of the blended learning course, best practices recommendations. As part of the work on the project, a new original project logo was created and a dissemination strategy presented by the University of Ostrava, the dissemination leader. The evaluation plan of the project was introduced by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the evaluation leader.

The development of a blended learning training targeting to enhance the skills of nurses regarding the identification and improvement of the Health Literacy and eHealth Literacy of patients is developed for the first time, so we consider it as an innovative practice in a digital era. eHealth Literacy will become prerequisite in years to come, and these types of training will become routine among the Healthcare professionals, still, at the moment healthcare professionals are not fully aware of the consequences of a low health and eHealth literate patient. The results of the project, which is funded by the EU budget, will raise awareness of health literacy among partner organizations, health professionals, nursing students, pilot participants, seniors and their families.
