New Year’s Greeting from Dean Rastislav Maďar

Dear colleagues, dear students,

At the beginning of the new year, I would like to wish you that the next 12 months bring you as much happiness and joy as possible in both your personal and professional, or in the case of students, academic life. A crucial prerequisite for this is maintaining strong health, both physically and mentally.

I want our faculty to continue being an environment dominated by positive energy, as well as a constructive and supportive atmosphere. This is created by all of us together as a community, not only within the scope of our standard professional duties but also through organizing numerous events and, of course, participating in them.

This year, a number of important milestones and events await us. In addition to the extension of accreditation for key medical and doctoral study programs, these include, for example, the completion of major construction work on the faculty campus and the opening of the LERCO building, which will provide modern facilities for top-level research as well as new teaching spaces.

In September, our faculty celebrated the 15th anniversary of its existence as a medical faculty, and in this relatively short time, we have managed to achieve a number of successes. We aim to be an institution offering high-quality and as practically oriented education as possible, taking into account feedback from students. We also strive to produce high-quality scientific outputs, participate in international research projects, and strengthen collaboration with foreign partners.

However, we do not forget our responsibility to support society, our city, our region, and those who are ill or in need, to which our faculty student organizations also contribute.

I would like to thank all of you who participate in these efforts, and I wish our students a successful passage through the current examination period without complications.

I look forward to working with you throughout the new year and to our joint efforts in advancing the Faculty of Medicine even further.

Rastislav Maďar
Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ostrava
