Opening Remarks by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ostrava, at the start of the new academic year
Dear colleagues, dear students,
At the beginning of the new academic year, I wish you much success throughout both upcoming semesters and, above all, good health.
Each of us, including our students, works under a certain amount of stress and pressure, and it is important to know how to manage it so that it does not become destructive. This was one of the main topics of the recent “Personal Development Day” for our faculty’s administrative staff, which was very positively received. Therefore we plan to continue with similar initiatives. Our technicians, administrative officers, secretaries, and managers are an important pillar of our institution, supporting researchers, academics, and students in fulfilling their tasks, and their contribution should never be overlooked. We aim to remain an institution that fosters a positive and creative working atmosphere at all levels, a quality already recognized and appreciated by visitors to our faculty.
Over the summer, the construction of the LERCO biomedical center building, along with the adjacent square in front of the new dean’s office, has advanced significantly. We have replaced and added new food and beverage vending machines at various locations within the faculty, prepared a new quiet study room for students in the ZA building (the former student affairs office behind the SIMLEK building), and also planned a wide range of events for the winter semester, about which we will keep you informed.
In the coming months, in addition to other duties, we will focus on finalizing the Strategic Plan for the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ostrava for the next five years, as well as the accreditation documentation for all three medical study programs.
Together, we will strive to move our faculty one step further, continuing to enhance its quality and prestige both at home and abroad, just as we have successfully done in recent years.
Once again, I wish you great success, and I look forward to our meetings and collaboration.
