The activities of the Centre for Obesity are focused on genetic aspects of obesity and the endocrine changes after interventions on the digestive tract, bone changes after extreme weight loss, in cooperation with foreign institutes. The center provides the treatment of obesity and the nutritional counseling. Surgical treatment of obesity, endoscopy at top clinics at the University Hospital Ostrava and Vitkovice Hospital in Ostrava.

Department of Disaster Medicine is an educational and research institute of the Medical Faculty, whose activities in recent years has increased significantly due to the growing threat of bioterrorism and political conflicts. The aim is to develop new nursing and operational techniques for coping with the consequences of mass disasters.

Epidemiological Research Center develops research activities in the field of epidemiology of selected infectious diseases, epidemiology of non-communicable diseases and epidemiology of living and working conditions.
