Anotation | ? The COVID-19 disease, which has spread globally since 2019, has affected more than 40% of the population in the Czech Republic according to available data. Healthcare workers, social workers, members of security forces, and educators face a higher risk of infection than the general population due to the nature of their professions. These workers can, provided they meet the clinical criteria, apply for the recognition of an occupational disease (OD). Between 2020 and 2023, more than 18,500 cases of COVID-19 OD were reported in the Czech Republic, predominantly among healthcare and social workers. Workers from the districts of Ostrava, Nový Jičín, Bruntál, and Opava are recorded at the Department of Occupational and Preventive Medicine at University Hospital Ostrava. Currently, over 1,450 individuals have submitted applications for recognition of COVID-19 as an occupational disease, providing details about their work, personal, and medical history. These data will help determine the prevalence of specific SARS-CoV-2 symptoms, evaluate the protective effect of vaccination, and identify and quantify specific risk factors for severe disease progression using basic statistical methods and logistic regression. |
