AnotationImmune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an immunologically determined disease characterized by platelet destruction and impaired production of platelets resulting to various grade of thrombocytopenia. The most common symptom of ITP is bleeding, which can be mild as mucocutaneous hemorrhage (e.g. petechiae, epistaxis) or even life-threatening in case of intracranial bleeding. Even if there are various effective treatment modalities at hand, in a group of patients the disease persists, becomes chronic and is associated with recurrent and sudden relapses and bleeding complications. Frequent blood sampling and outpatient check-ups are typical in care of these patients. HemoScreen is a small, portable point-of-care hematology analyzer which can measure 20 standard complete blood count parameters in 5 minutes. The device is simple to use and is able to examine capillary blood, which makes it the ideal candidate for home use. Our aim is to verify the possibility of home platelet monitoring in high-risk ITP patients using HemoScreen. It should lead to higher safety and quality of life for our patients.
