AnotationAccording to the WHO, approximately 11 million people die from sepsis each year. Sepsis-3 defines sepsis as a life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection. For early screening, the so-called qSOFA score (quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment) can be used. If a patient meets at least 2 of the following 3 criteria, they are considered a patient with possible sepsis: respiratory rate (? 22 breaths/min), systolic blood pressure (? 100 mmHg), and altered mental status (e.g., GCS < 15 or other signs of impaired consciousness). The study will collect and evaluate data from selected patients with severe infectious conditions. Participating clinical departments will identify patients according to the agreed parameters of early infection (qSOFA values) and include them in the study. In each enrolled patient, samples will be collected for microbiological testing and for the assessment of inflammatory markers, as recommended and routinely performed in such cases. These include the collection of clinical samples intended for culture, such as blood cultures and urine, as well as any other clinical specimen suspected as the infection source (e.g., wound swab, sputum). Additionally, blood will be drawn to determine CRP, PCT, leukocyte count, and the ICIS score.
