| Anotation | The project responds to alarming findings from previous surveys conducted in the Moravian-Silesian Region, which highlighted serious deficiencies in the oral health of residents. A pilot screening carried out in 2023 in the cities of Orlová, Karviná, and Havířov revealed that two-thirds of the examined individuals had poor oral hygiene, while more than three-quarters suffered from generalized gingivitis. It is also concerning that nearly two-thirds of respondents had never visited a dental hygienist, and only one-fifth regularly see a dentist. The lack of awareness regarding proper oral care is further illustrated by the fact that only twelve percent of respondents use interdental brushes. The main aim of the project is to conduct oral cavity examinations among residents of Ostrava, particularly in areas at risk of social exclusion, followed by education on proper dental care. The collected data will serve as a key basis for targeted prevention programs and support for oral health. An essential part of the project is also the identification of specific risk factors related to the socio-economic situation of residents. In socially excluded localities, there is a significant accumulation of risk factors affecting oral health. The main issues include low health literacy, limited access to dental care, increased occurrence of risk behaviors such as smoking, and unfavorable socio-economic status. This project represents the first comprehensive approach to addressing oral health in socially excluded areas, combining field-based screening with immediate educational intervention. |
