| Anotation | Residents of remote communities in the Republic of Congo live in primitive conditions without access to potable water and electricity. The lack of infrastructure, dependence on the own production of food, poverty, and poor access to health care significantly negatively affect the health status of the local population. In these areas, data on the morbidity of infectious and non-infectious diseases, as well as data on the general state of health, are not known. Therefore, health screening must be the beginning of any interventions and effort to improve the quality of health care. Treatment of priority infectious diseases, such as HIV or tuberculosis, is available locally thanks to the financial support of supranational organisations. However, local clinics are not equipped and lack diagnostic facilities that would detect these infections. The aim of the project is to conduct a screening of the health status of residents of remote communities of the Republic of Congo. The screening will focus on priority infectious and non-infectious diseases. It will include measurement of blood pressure, blood glucose, and total cholesterol, and assessment of nutritional status. It will also include testing for infectious diseases of global importance, especially HIV, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis B and C and syphilis. An oncological screening will also be included, specifically a test for occult bleeding in the stool. As part of this screening, 200 people will be examined. |
