A novel local therapy for myeloma bone disease

AnotationThe outcome of patients with multyple myeloma (MM) has notably augmented as a consequence of new therapeutic approaches. Extend in life expectancy has increased the need for providing long-term supportive care and quality of life for these patients by limiting disease-associated complications. One of the major disease-associated complications in MM patients is the bone disease (MBD) that leads to pain, fractures, and mobility issues. Current standard of care in MBD restrain the progression of MBD but is not able of healing the bone lesion, leading to a considerably reduction of the quality of life. Therefore, we propose a local treatment of bone defects produced by MBD with a composite of natural killer cells and mesenchymal stem cells embedded in fibrin scaffolds. This novel approach can lead to the elimination of residual tumor cells and restores bone healing in patients with MBD. The success in the proposal could be a game-changing therapeutic approach for patients with MBD, with a substantial improvement in their quality of life.
