AnotationThe project assumes an assessment of the impacts of selected environmental risk factors and lifestyle on health and aging of the population in and outside the industrial region. The project will monitor two basic cohorts, the cohort of women and their children (about 500 mothers and about 500 of their children) and the cohort of adults (about 750 runners and 200 young men) in the industrial and non-industrial regions. These two basic cohorts represent a broad age group of population from birth to middle generation (up to 60 years). Detection of differences in morbidity, occurrence of risk factors related to physical activity, levels of biomarkers of effects and susceptibility and positive lifestyle factors in the monitored population will serve for evaluation of environmental and individual determinants of health in both regions. Cohort will participate in individual studies, which are divided into 4 research programs: Morbidity and socio-economic studies, physical activity studies, molecular-epidemiological studies and reprotoxicity studies. These cohorts will be studied in and outside the industrial region. In addition to indicators of health and physical activity, the balance of economic benefits of industrial activity on the one hand and the losses caused to the environment and health of the population on the other hand will be measured. The project results can then serve as a basis for formulating recommendations and interventions towards a better policy for the protection and promotion of public health.
