Job description
- Research in biochemistry, protein biochemistry and proteomics focused on investigating the molecular mechanisms of cancer within the LERCO project and Research Programme 7 Applied Research in Oncology.
- Development, optimisation and application of biochemical and proteomic methods for the analysis of biological samples and experimental models.
- Isolation, purification and characterisation of proteins and protein complexes using chromatographic, electrophoretic and immunochemical methods, including affinity purification, co-immunoprecipitation (co-IP), SDS-PAGE and Western blotting.
- Preparation of biological samples for proteomic analyses and participation in the analysis and interpretation of mass spectrometry data.
- Performing biochemical and enzymatic assays focused on protein-protein interactions, enzyme and protein kinase activity and kinetics, and signalling pathways associated with cancer biology.
- Collaboration with other research teams within Research Programme 7 in the planning, implementation and evaluation of experiments.
- Analysis and interpretation of experimental data, preparation of scientific publications and presentation of research results at national and international conferences.
- Participation in the preparation of research projects and grant proposals and in the scientific supervision and mentoring of students and junior members of the research team.
Qualification requirements – required
- Completed doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry, biotechnology or a related natural science or biomedical field.
- Practical experience with protein biochemistry and molecular biology methods, including protein isolation, purification and biochemical characterisation.
- Practical experience with electrophoretic, immunochemical and chromatographic methods, particularly SDS-PAGE and Western blotting.
- Experience in performing and evaluating biochemical or enzymatic assays.
- Ability to independently plan, perform and evaluate experimental work and interpret the resulting data.
- Experience in presenting scientific results and a record of scientific publications.
- Proficiency in English sufficient for professional communication, working with scientific literature and preparing scientific publications.
- Ability to work effectively in a team, independence, accuracy and willingness to learn new experimental and analytical methods.
Qualification requirements – preferred
- Experience with proteomic analyses and the preparation of biological samples for mass spectrometry-based analysis.
- Practical experience with protein affinity purification, immunoprecipitation or co-immunoprecipitation (co-IP) and the study of protein-protein interactions.
- Experience with enzyme kinetics or analysis of the activity of protein kinases and other enzymes.
- Experience with liquid chromatography (HPLC, FPLC), mass spectrometry or heterologous expression and purification of recombinant proteins.
- Experience with molecular biology methods and bioinformatic or statistical tools for experimental data analysis.
- Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration and the application of biochemical or proteomic methods in biomedical or cancer research.
- Experience with grant proposal preparation, participation in research projects or supervision and mentoring of students.

- 60 % FTE
The duration of employment
- fixed-term employment from 1 October 2026 to 31 December 2027, for the duration of the LERCO project

- The salary is determined according to the University′s internal salary regulations and also reflects the applicant′s professional experience.
