Group Profile

The Head and Neck Cancer Research Group (HNCRG) is a multidisciplinary research platform focused on the biology, diagnostics, and therapeutic targets of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and related head and neck cancers. The group was established in 2025 as part of the Centre for Health Research of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ostrava, building on long-term research and clinical activities carried out at the University Hospital Ostrava and within the LERCO infrastructure.

The group connects clinical and academic environments and encompasses fields ranging from pathology and oncology to molecular biology, bioinformatics, and biomedical engineering. Our goal is to understand the biological mechanisms of tumor progression, invasiveness, and treatment resistance, and to translate this knowledge into clinically applicable diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. The group′s research has a strong translational dimension, integrating analyses of biological mechanisms in laboratory models with validation of results in clinical settings.
