A message from the Dean for the new academic year

Dear Colleagues, Dear Students,

At the beginning of the new academic year, I would like to take this opportunity to greet you and wish you every success and good health. I look forward to working with you and to the events we are preparing for the winter semester, not only on our university premises. The largest of these will be the Ceremonial Meeting of the Scientific Council on 14 October, a day designated as a Dean’s Day off, when we will meet at 2:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Ostrava at Černá louka, and I hope that as many of us as possible will be there. Incidentally, on the same day, from the morning hours onwards, students will have the opportunity to attend presentations by healthcare institutions offering employment opportunities, held directly at our Faculty of Medicine as part of the now traditional KAM PAK event.

Throughout the summer, we worked intensively on all the activities that I announced at the end of the previous academic year. Students are returning to our campus with no barriers, fencing or construction machinery, and with the LERCO Research Centre fully completed. Its official opening will take place on the very first day of the new academic year, 7 September. The square in front of the Dean’s Office has also been reopened, which means that the main entrance to the Dean’s Office building and the main route taken by students towards the ZY INLEK building have changed.

We have replaced the windows and doors in the Quiet Study Room, which will once again be accessible after the card reader has been installed. Its exterior is still being addressed, and we are launching a creative competition for its design. Construction of the lift in the ZO building will continue until approximately mid-October. We have some very original plans for it; however, the remaining work will be carried out without disrupting work or teaching.

I will be pleased if we manage to accomplish all our plans during the winter semester, across all three fundamental pillars of every academic institution – education, research, and service to society. I would like to thank each and every one of you in advance for contributing your part to this effort.

I would especially like to greet our first-year students who are joining us directly from secondary school and for whom today represents the greatest change. I wish you the fulfilment of your dreams and expectations and hope that, despite all the obstacles you may encounter during the course of your demanding studies, you will see everything through to a successful conclusion.
